We are happy to announce that we will be holding three tryouts for the upcoming PIHA season. Based on the tryouts our coaching staff will be selecting and rostering one pro team and one “A” minor team. Dates and times are as follows:
- Saturday June 15th 10 AM – 12 PM
- Saturday June 22nd 10 AM – 12 PM
- Sunday June 23rd 1 PM – 3 PM
Four hockey players stand in the parking lot of a visiting facility, holding their bag and dressed in their road attire of khakis and polo shirts. In the middle of the group, is a man in a dress shirt and slack, fiddling with his neck tie and making all kinds of noises closely associated with frustration. A 5th member of the visiting team approaches and the man in the dress shirt states the following, “(Brian) Duchesne, you’re the captain, tie this (expletive) thing for me!!!”, as the group busts out in laughter.
The man in the dress shirt is the Head Coach of the Harrisburg Lunatics Pro and Minor teams, Ron Gilbert and this scene (which is completely 110% true) took place as the minor league Tics were about to embark on a two game set in Pottstown with Team Blue back in mid-October. Normally, a coach is kind of estranged from players in a way. For the most part they tend to be older than most of the players and don’t tend to hang with them in social situations. Coach Gilbert is the obvious exception to this stereotype. Always traveling to away games with players, joking around, Coach is a different sort, and his players respect him for it. Ron is coming to the end of his second season as the man in charge and will lead the Pro troops into the PIHA playoffs this weekend at the Inline Skating Club of America in New Jersey. The Tics are looking for a long playoff run with Ron at the helm, especially because once this season comes to an end, so will Ron’s tenure as head coach.
This Saturday January 5th the Harrisburg Lunatics minor and pro inline hockey teams will be holding their Autism Awareness Night at the Susquehanna Sportscenter in Lemoyne that will benefit The Autism Society of the Greater Harrisburg Area. There will be a silent auction for game worn Pro jerseys, raffles for prizes and all kinds of fun stuff with all the proceeds going towards the The Autism Society! Minors play at 6:30, Pros at 7:30 and more minor action at 9:30 for you pucknuts! Admission is $5 and kids under 7 get in free! PLEASE come out and support this great cause and watch some great inline hockey action!

THE LUNATICS WILL BE SELECTING ONE PRO TEAM, AND AN “A” MINOR TEAM, AND A “B” MINOR TEAM (if there is interest) for the upcoming 2012-2013 PIHA Season.
When the Harrisburg Lunatics took the floor at the 422 Sportsplex in Pottstown, PA a few weeks ago to start their 2011 PIHA campaign, a lot of the environmental details were the same as they always are when they take the floor. The Rocket puck was exactly the same as it had been the season before. The opponents were nearly identical to the same ones faced a year ago, with a changing face or two. Even the officiating crew was all familiar to the players. But this season was different…something, or should I say someone, was missing.
Professional Inline Hockey League action returns to The Asylum, the home of your Harrisburg Lunatics, on Saturday October 22nd. All Pro and Minor teams in the Eastern Conference will descend upon the Sport Center for one day of action packed roller hockey. Games begin at 7:30am with the Minor Division playing during the first half of the day. Pro action gets underway at 3:30pm with the last game starting at 11:45pm.
The initial practice schedule for the 2012 PIHA season has been released. Additional practices will be added as the season goes on.
